Major: Illustration & Art History

I chose Marywood because it was a smaller, more personable university that was close to home for me. They gave me a sizable scholarship that has allowed me to pursue the education required for my future career.

I am majoring in Art because I feel it is the only course for me, really. There is an intense desire within me to create endlessly and so it only makes sense that I pursue it because I have no other option. When I’m not in class, I am usually reading or hanging out with friends. I really enjoy historical fiction and fantasy. Currently I am reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood was General Illustration. It was my first class that was specified for my major and to be able to create stories and fulfill design requirements in creative ways really excited me. It supported that this was the art field I wanted to pursue.

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was go to Italy with members of the faculty during spring break in 2023. I was able to have a fully immersive learning experience, seeing in person the subject matter I had studied in my classes that I took for the trip. One of the most amazing things I did on the trip was to do a class presentation for my Italian Renaissance Art class in front of the piece itself, Massacio’s Holy Trinity from 1427-1428.

When I graduate I would like to work in publishing and the graphic novel industry. I’d like to work on book covers and help authors make their stories come to life visually. My hope is to eventually author stories of my own.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because the class sizes are relatively small and you’re able to work more directly with the professor instructing you so that you don’t get lost in the shuffle like other, bigger schools.
