Student Spotlight: Dylan Pugh

Hello my dear readers! The semester is coming to an end and it seems like everything is colliding together instead of being tied up in a nice bow. But that’s just how finals are! Nonetheless, I am here to deliver content and introduce you to yet another talented soul who will be forever on this site (or for how long the internet exists).

They have such a cute style and always compliments my outfits whenever they see me! There is always a smile on their face and boundless amounts of sunshine radiating off them. They are always lovely to talk to and supports everyone around them!

So enough hyping up! Its time to introduce you all to…

Dylan Pugh!

Dylan is a Sophmore Graphic Design major who likes to try new things which influences their art

Major: Graphic Design

Minor: 3D Studio Art

Graduation Year: 2026

I am majoring in Art because…

Since I was in high school I knew I wanted to do art as a career. When I got to college I fell in love with the field of graphic design and knew I was meant to be a graphic designer.

The kinds of things that inspire me are…

I am inspired by all sorts of things. I spend a lot of time consuming music and tv/film and I believe that definitely influences my art. I am always someone who wants to expand my horizons and try new things. I’m always looking for new restaurants to try and new music to listen to. I also feel like fashion influences my art a lot.

My art favorite class so far was…

I think it would have to be a tie between Introduction to Typography and Jewelry I, both classes I’m taking this semester. In Intro to Typography, I am learning how to use effective typography in design. In Jewelry, I get to work with my hands and make rings, pendants, etc. I learned how to use a soldering torch, drill, hammer, and other materials which I never expected I would know how to use.

When I am not in class…

I am in the library catching up on work and catching up with my friends. I love the library because there are so many resources at your fingertips and it is the perfect spot to meet up and converse with others. I also love using my dining dollars and meal swipes to buy delicious drinks and bagels from the study grounds.

The coolest thing I have done at Marywood so far was…

Getting to attend drag bingo! I am normally not a fan of the bingos but it was so inspiring to see Kasha Davis live and laugh with her and hear her story. I also sang karaoke in front of a big crowd which is not something I normally do.

When I graduate…

I want to eventually work my way up to running my own graphic design company. Women and nonbinary designers only hold 11% of leadership positions and I want to be part of the movement that changes that. I also plan on moving to a city near the coast (preferably up north because I am not a heat person) that utilizes public transportation.

I would recommend the Art program at Marywood because…

All of the professors have experience working in the field as well as teaching so they are very knowledgeable and prepare you for working in the field. With the small class sizes you get to connect with your professors on a 1:1 basis. Marywood’s art program also provides you with interesting experiences such as gallery exhibitions and yearly trips to NYC and Philadelphia!

What excites me most about Art is…

That I am able to do anything! I can work in any medium I want. Art allows me to break out of my comfort zone and try new things. When making art, you always are trying new things and sometimes it takes multiple tries to get the results you want. This was a very important lesson for me to learn.

Bonus Question! If you could choose any historical figure to be your imaginary friend who would it be and why?

I would choose Amelia Earhart because I loved her character in Night at the Museum

Here are some pieces made by Dylan!

Trying new things whether it’s art or expirences is always wonderful as it gives us new ideas and perspectives which we can use in our own art! I hope reading Dylan’s spotlight can encourage us all to go out and learn/try something new as it can be worthwhile.

I hope you all enjoyed today’s students spotlight, as always I enjoyed writing it! Thank you for reading!

Sephora, out <3
