SIDEWALK CHALK ART COMPETITION

Hey everybody, this week I wanted to talk about something more local. While scrolling through Facebook, I saw an awesome article talking about some sidewalk chalk art on East Tioga Street in Tunkhannock.

The Wyoming County Examiner’s website writes that “Ross Cameron and Lisa Tizzoni, owners of the shop Mercantile 22, hosted a sidewalk chalk art competition as part of the Tunkhannock Fourth Fridays series” and how “Cameron and Tizzoni wanted to go beyond staying open late and offer a unique experience”.

Fourth Friday, as the name implies, occurs on the fourth Friday of each month where local businesses stay open a little later than usual and some plan special events. The WCE quotes Cameron as saying that “we brainstormed ideas and thought sidewalk art would be a good way to get the community involved, give an activity for people to do while they’re in town visiting aside from shopping or eating out”.

“Mercantile 22 supplied chalk to around 12 participants on Friday, who got to work on the sidewalks outside of businesses downtown”. One of the winners of the contest, Sarah Dibble, who happens to be an art teacher herself, heard about the competition while shopping at Mercantile 22 and decided to participate. The shop owners hope for this competition to be a monthly thing with the goal of bringing the community together through sidewalk chalk art.
